Anger & Rage

When an animal in the wild escapes a predator, it will immediately afterwards shake itself vigorously to throw off and release the excess adrenalin trapped in its system. Unlike animals however we tend to hold onto the energy of stressful situations and may even replay them over and over again in our minds. In this way, we amplify the perceived wrong by thinking about it for hours, days and even YEARS afterwards – we add it to our existing stock of grievances.

Such an accumulation of anger held suppressed within our body is like an emotional bruise which needs only a small trigger from another to provoke an eruption of rage. Explosions of anger can wreak havoc in our lives and almost always we regret them afterwards. The same as fear, trapped and un-discharged anger robs us of an enormous amount of energy and ultimately is very damaging to our health.

Yet how can we possibly know how to handle our anger when as children, the only role models we had were adults who themselves either had “tantrums” or held their emotions under rigid control? We can only learn to master our powerful emotions when we’re allowed to connect with them: really feel them and then release them.

Through hypnosis I help people to identify the underlying cause of their anger and the situations which always trigger that anger. I also use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to teach them ways to become much more conscious of a potential angry outburst and to learn ways to master it BEFORE it erupts. In this way, they find neutral ways of releasing anger and eventually dissolve it completely.

Controlled anger, over which we have total mastery, becomes a powerful force for change; a dynamic means of eliminating corruption and apathy in our social systems.
